Physio-led group exercise classes for hip and knee rehab
When a fitness studio shares a home with a physiotherapy clinic, you get a pretty good feel for the most prevalent injuries and conditions your clients need phyxing. Our top five, in no particular order:
- Hips
- Knees
- Back
- Ankle
- Shoulder
A large number of our hips and knees clients are post-surgery needing to continue their rehabilitation beyond hospital outpatient programs. So we established Cairns first Hips & Knees Rehab class and PhyxMe’s own senior Pilates instructor Ruth Dunne was a founding member (knee replacement surgery).
The class is taken by Pilates trained physiotherapist Lauren Sambell and caters for a diverse range of people
preparing for meniscectomy, reconstructive or joint replacement surgery |
rehabilitating from surgery |
managing conditions like Osteoarthritis non-surgically |
simply wanting quality of life without pain |
The class uses Pilates principles to teach correct activation and control of muscles that stabilise the hip and knee, as well as building lower limb strength, pelvic/lumbar stability and core strength.
You will also learn modifications for exercise and everyday functional activities (eg. getting in and out of bed or the car) to ensure optimal function and minimal discomfort.
PhyxMe client Supreeda Taylor has been attending the class after major knee surgery
“My physio suggested I try the Hips & Knees rehab class. After my knee surgery, I was scared to move and do exercise and wanted someone who could supervise and instruct me. One of the best things about coming to class is the support from other clients – it helps me feel better. Plus my leg is so much stronger and I can walk much better, with less pain and I have the confidence to move.”
