Dry Needling

Also known as Western Acupuncture, dry needling is a treatment modality regularly used by physiotherapists in our Cairns clinics to

stimulate the release of pain relieving chemicals

release trigger points and muscle knots to restore length and movement to muscles which have become functionally shortened or in spasm

reduce inflammation and improve blood flow

Dry needling involves inserting fine acupuncture needles through the skin into the muscle in an attempt to restore function to the muscle and fascial tissue.

This treatment is available during your physio appointment at no additional cost.

How is dry needling different to Chinese acupunture?

Acupunture works on traditional Chinese medicinal philosophies of meridians (or lines of energy) that create balance to bodily systems and organs.

Dry needling is based on a Western understanding of anatomy and muscle function.

Dry needling is a relatively pain free treatment that can be very beneficial in breaking the chronic pain cycle that accompanies many of the conditions we treat.
